Q. Why are some US vehicles inadmissible?
A. A vehicle is deemed inadmissible when it cannot be certified to meet Canadian safety requirements.

Q. Are vehicles admissible if they do not have a clear title?
A. No. If a vehicle is branded Salvage/Rebuildable, or has been written off due to an accident or other permanent damage (such as stolen, flood or other water damage), or altered/modified from its original configuration at the time of manufacture (emission and safety standards), it is not admissible into Canada.

Q. Why do US vehicles require modifications for importation into Canada?
A. As Canadian & US safety standards are not completely aligned, all US vehicles that are admissible require certification work in order for them to meet Canadian safety requirements.

Q. Can a Mercedes-Benz dealer in the US or an independent garage in Canada perform the safety certification work?
A. No. Safety certification work can only be performed at an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer in Canada.

Q. How much does it cost to modify a US vehicle?
A. Estimates for safety certification work are only available through an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer in Canada (charges may apply).

Q. What modifications are needed in order for a US vehicle to comply with Canadian safety standards?
A. The scope of the safety certification work required varies depending on the model. Specifics on safety certification work must be obtained from an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer in Canada. The dealer will require the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in order to provide such specifics. Obtaining a Letter of Admissibility prior to purchasing the vehicle in the US is recommended. This letter will confirm the vehicle's admissibility status into Canada and should be presented to the authorized Mercedes-Benz Canada dealer performing the safety certification work.

Q. How do I obtain a Letter of Admissibility?
A. Letters of Admissibility are provided by Mercedes-Benz Canada. To request a letter of admissibility, please use the link provided at the top right corner of this page.

Q. How will the Letter of Admissibility be sent to me?
A. We have a process set up to manage these requests that necessitates all Admissibility Letters to be sent by regular mail.

Q. How do I obtain a Recall Clearance Letter for a US vehicle?
A. Recall Clearance letters for US vehicles must be obtained through Mercedes-Benz USA (1-800-367-6372).

Q. If I import a US vehicle into Canada, is the warranty still applicable?
A. Remaining U.S.A. factory warranty will be activated in Canada once the required certification work is completed and the compliance letter has been issued by Mercedes-Benz Canada.

Q. Is the Extended Limited Warranty on a US vehicle applicable in Canada?
A. No.

Q. Can I purchase a Mercedes-Benz Extended Limited Warranty in Canada for my US vehicle?
A. No.

Q. Do vehicles imported from the US have Mercedes-Benz Roadside Assistance Coverage in Canada?
A. No.  You may call the Canadian Roadside Assistance number (1-800-387-0100) for service, but assistance will be provided on a fee-per-service basis only.
