Behind every Formula 1 championship is a series of innovations: upgrades large and small that give the world’s greatest racers that extra bit of edge.
But not all innovations are reserved for the Formula 1 driver. AMG engineers are constantly looking for ways to bring track-bred improvements into road-ready performance vehicles, passing along hard-won lessons in power, maneuverability, and efficiency. The new Mercedes-AMG C 43 is the latest in that tradition: A powerful sedan with an ingenious new engine at its core.
Hand-built according to AMG’s “one man, one engine” philosophy, the AMG 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine is where up-to-the-millisecond digital technology meets old-school expertise and craft. It is the world’s first series-production engine to feature an electric exhaust-gas turbocharger — technology directly adapted from the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team. Powered by the onboard 48-volt electrical system, the turbocharger sharpens the vehicle’s performance, creating a more spontaneous response across all stages of acceleration.
The new engine is simply one element in a holistic approach to performance. Its considerable power is immaculately channeled by the AMG SPEEDSHIFT® MCT 9-speed transmission. AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive with rear-biased torque distribution ensures confident handlingDisclaimer. The AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with Adaptive Damping System delivers sportiness with supreme comfort. And standard rear-axle steering adds that extra 2.5 degrees of stability and precision.
Inside and out, the C 43 displays design touches that signal its AMG pedigree, from its radiator grille to air intakes to the black upholstery with contrast red stitching. As always, form is never far from function: For example, an AMG Performance steering wheel allows for rapid cycling through driving programs, just as the entire cabin, from AMG sport pedals to illuminated door sills to electronic displays are designed to deliver heightened control over every thrilling drive.
