Handcrafted AMG 2.0L inline-4 turbo engine with hybrid assist
<p>The first "43" engine handcrafted in the AMG "One man, one engine" tradition applies technology from racing to advance performance with efficiency. A pioneering electric exhaust-gas turbocharger and belt-driven Starter-Generator team with advanced fuel injection, friction reduction and multi-level engine cooling. The result is an impressive output of 416 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque from a compact, lightweight and decidedly modern 2.0L 4-cylinder engine.</p>
Electric exhaust-gas turbocharger
<p>A series production first, the SL 43's electric exhaust-gas turbocharger is derived from the competition-winning technology of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas racing team. A thin 48-volt electric motor, integrated directly on the shaft between the turbine and compressor wheels, can accelerate the compressor before the exhaust-gas flow takes over. The innovative 175,000-peak-rpm turbo helps maintain boost pressure and improve engine response from idle to high rpm, even when the driver lifts off the gas.</p>
Z-fold power soft top
<p>In keeping with the SL's sportier direction, a finely tailored 3-layer acoustic soft top is nearly 23 kg lighter than the previous model's retractable hardtop. At driving speeds up to 60 km/h,the top powers up or down in via its own switch panel or the central touchscreen, which animates the 15-second process. The clever Z-fold design lets the lowered top form its own flush rear deck, further saving the weight, complexity and visible seams of a conventional cover.</p>
3rd Generation Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX)
<p>A breakthrough in automobile cockpit control, the Mercedes-Benz User Experience is further enhanced in the SL. MBUX integrates digital in-dash displays including a touchscreen, touch-sensitive controls, Bluetooth® hands-free and audio streaming, and an industry-advancing voice control system that responds to your everyday speaking voice and phrasing of commands. You can set up multiple user profiles of favoured settings, and groups of settings can be saved as themes or moods.</p>
Burmester Surround Sound system
<p>One of the most respected makers of handcrafted high-end home audio, Germany's Burmester® has developed a surround-sound system that's specifically tailored to the SL. With 11 high-quality speakers including a subwoofer and a 650-watt, 12-channel digital amplifier, the system can fill the cabin with pure surround sound while seamlessly compensating for ambient noise. Exquisitely detailed aluminum speaker grilles are as rewarding to the eyes as the system's output is to the most discerning ears.</p>
